TIES 2024 Name and Gender Marker Change Legal Clinic

Registration

  • This option is for attorneys who have not attended a VEBA training in the last two years.
  • This option is for attorneys who do not need to participate in the training. You must have both attended a VEBA name change CLE within the last two years and worked with at least 3 name/gender change clients during the same period.
  • Virginia LGBTQ+ Bar Association board and committee members, volunteering but not serving clients directly.
  • This option is for students of any school other than the University of Richmond School of Law. Students from the University of Richmond should use "Students (Spiders, CLE+Clinic)" instead.
  • For VEBA attorney members with prior clinic experience who are unable to participate in-person on-site, but are able to assist by meeting virtually with the assigned client at a mutually agreeable date and time set by the volunteer in coordination with the assigned client. Law students may be available to help, but you should assume you'll be working alone.
  • This option is for students of the University of Richmond School of Law and the paralegal program of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

10th Anniversary of the Name and Gender Marker Change Clinics!!

Join Virginia LGBTQ+ Bar Association volunteers for a day of service!

The clinic will assist clients with name change applications, administrative and judicial petitions for gender marker changes, birth certificate corrections, DMV and social security record updates, DD214 updates (military discharge records), and answering related legal questions.

Registration Options:

CLE + Clinic: The training is expected to be approved for two hours of MCLE credit. Training begins at 10:00 a.m. 

Clinic only: A brief clinical operations training session is required for all participants beginning at 12:30 p.m., followed by three hours of working with clients, beginning at  1 p.m.

The location of TIES is being kept confidential prior to registration; specifically, the location will be shared in reminder emails. By car, the location is less than 20 minutes from the city center and within 20 minutes from the University of Richmond.
